Acting as a specialist independent consultant, I help people and organisations agree upon, and adapt to, strategic changes.

Adapt

What if we could do even better than resolving disputes constructively? What if we could re-wire the way we agree or disagree, to avoid damaging disputes developing in the first place and to allow room for growth?

The potential benefits include:

•    greater productivity: as less time, resources and legal costs are wasted on pursuing disputes;

•    more competitive edge: arising from a greater willingness to listen, less blinkered thinking and more collaboration;

•    greater team spirit and a more creative working environment, leading to improved ability to attract and retain key people.

As workplaces increasingly include a greater element of remote working and remote management, these benefits become all the more vital.

Mediation principles and skills can be used to put this re-wiring into effect, including through:

•    embedding active listening, reframing, reality testing, constructive disagreement and other mediation skills as key team attributes;

•    planning and facilitating team sessions, encouraging diverse participation and getting beneath the surface of what’s being said;

•    installing “pause” and “reframe” buttons into formal and informal processes, such as performance improvement, grievance and whistle-blowing procedures;

•    including mediation routes in arrangements with employees, suppliers and service providers;

•    using mediation techniques to build consensus about the strategic direction and purpose of the organisation.

I act as a facilitator to teams and organisations seeking to gain these benefits. I'm happy to work alongside existing internal and external advisers.

Adapt services

The services I provide under the heading of Adapt are flexible and include:

•    Working with organisations to embed mediation principles into their everyday team interactions, their processes and their DNA.

•    Facilitating team sessions and awaydays – using mediation skills and techniques to:

o    encourage diverse participation;
o    get underneath the surface of what’s being said;
o    identify the driving forces and key issues;
o    test how realistic the views and suggestions of the          participants are;
o    summarise and check understanding;
o    build consensus;

o    ensure implementation.
